I just found out yesterday that i have a basal cell carcinoma (infiltrative aggressive type) on the side of my cheek. I am supposed to be getting the Mohs surgery procedure. I was worried because i have to wait 2 weeks just to talk to the surgeon then probably 2 more week wait until the procedure. Thanks for your site it helps!!!!!!!! Wed, Nov 12, 2008 11:14 am 44

I understand how you feel about waiting like this. The last time I had Basal Cell there was a month from when I found out I had it to when they could schedule Dr. Goldstien and Dr. Kreit on consecutive days. Dr Goldstien did the Mohs surgery and Dr. Kreit did the forehead flap procedure. It was hard to wait knowing that you had a basal cell but fortunately basal cell is rather slow growing so probably not much changed over that month. I think you'll be fine, it's really more a mental thing when it comes to having to wait like this. Thanks for commenting and let me know if I can be of any help. There's a contact link at the bottom of most pages. Marcy Huber |
Glory be......I had a basil cell removed from the TIP of my nose a month ago....they did a skin graft...using skin from my ear area....I haver a white circle on the end of my nose....I am hoping the white spot will look more like my skin color eventually.....any thougths on pigment color after a skin graft ???? ..You are amazing !!!! I loved having your site to return to !!! thanks Mon, Oct 6, 2008 14:28 pm 39

I believe that if the graft gets a good blood flow that the pigment should gradually even out. It may never match as close as you'd like but probably nothing a little, what do they call it, foundation I think, could cover up. Now really what do I know about that? Thanks for the nice comment, glad you enjoy the site. Lori |
Help, i just had mohs surgery done above my lip, it is very deep and they want to do flap surgery but first they are going to do a skin graf which they do not think will work. i am still confused on how the forehead gets swollen and where does the skin then drop from? maybe you can explain this to me in laymans terms. by the way, thank you for sharing your experience with us. you look wonderful Mon, Aug 11, 2008 16:26 pm 33

To all who have posted here and said 'thanks', well, Thanks to you for visiting this site and posting your thoughts. As for Lori here, I've been in email contact with her and will update this as she progresses. Update: I've posted the email exchanges that Lori and I had as she progressed through the recovery of the MOHS surgery. Go to http://www.basalcellmohs.com/basal-cell-on-the-lip.html It's also linked to from the home page. Carol Schulz |
I live in Brazil and had a BCC removed from the side edge of nose. It has left a dent and I feel numbness going up my nose into my eye area. Dermatologist says it's not connected? I don't know what to do and wonder if nose will get less sensitive with time. What was removed showed edges clear of cancer. I'm wary and watchful now. Thanks again. Mon, Jul 28, 2008 13:05 pm 32

Thank you so much for sharing your pictures. I had Moh's on a basal cell on my nose and have been comforted knowing how much more extensive it could have been and the excellent results that can happen. I am one month out. The absolute worse part for me was the 48 hours post surgery with bandages. I am healing well, have some numbness, but I am very happy with the results. I took two pain pills during the first 48 hours, mostly to sleep. I have had very little pain. Again, thank you. Sat, Jul 26, 2008 06:35 am 31

I'd also like to add, thanks for this site! It's very helpful (although now I'm terrified that mine will come back again.) One question I have: My surgery was a year ago and I still have a feeling of constant pressure/tension around my nose and forehead as if I've got a vicegrip on it. (even though I didn't have a skin flap done) Anybody else have this after-effect of the surgery? Mon, Apr 21, 2008 13:32 pm 10

Hi Rhonda, that skin was probably pulled pretty tight in order to close the area, mine was and it still feels very taut. In fact there's a large area on top of my head that goes several inches past the end of the incision that is numb.Dr. Kriet said this was normal, that some people slowly regain all feeling and that others never get the feeling back. Something about when the skin is pulled a good distance to close, there is some nerve damage happened. Thanks for visiting, KD Rhonda Gibson |
Barbara, don't wait. Have the surgery. It can only grow and get worse. My BCC on my nose was removed by a dermatologist and it came back and I had Mohs and it had gone in very deep. He couldn't do a skin flap because of my forehead shape so he gave me the option of a skin graft or just sewing it up. I went with the latter and it's okay. Just a big dent. No, I feel your pain. Man what an experience. Here's hoping you get through all this intact. And yeah, the tip of my nose grows hair also. Good Luck.KD Barbara Gaines |
Thank you so much for the "DOCTOR" story. I needed a laugh, was just told I have squamous cell in 4 places on nose(both sides) am so fearful of the forehead skin graft, don't think I can do it. I told my doctor I will have FAITH in GOD and pray to make it go away. He is doing his best to convince me otherwise. Thu, Apr 10, 2008 17:44 pm 7

Hi. you're welcome for the laugh, sometimes when we are in a 'No Laughing' situation, a laugh is just what lightens the moment. Being a believer in Faith and Prayer myself, I'll be praying for you that God will guide the outcome. Whether He makes it go away or merely steadies the doctors hand, I know He is in charge and will be with you every step of the way. As for the forehead flap procedure, if that is an option your doctor is considering, I can tell you that it's not so bad. But don't wait, you really need to get scheduled today. KD 1 2
